Improving early childhood literacy with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library creates opportunities for children to thrive so they succeed in school and help their communities grow and prosper.
Dolly Parton launched the Imagination Library in 1995 to foster an early love of reading and learning in her hometown of Sevier County, Tenn. The Imagination Library has since become the highest quality, most recognizable and most effective book gifting resource in the world. Policymakers, funders, early childhood organizations and families trust The Imagination Library to inspire a love of reading among children of all ages.
How Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Works
This premier program mails free high-quality, age-appropriate books to registered children every month from birth to age 5. Children enrolled from birth receive 60 books by the time they graduate from the Imagination Library program. The Foundation covers overhead costs and negotiates wholesale pricing for the books, while local community partners fundraise to cover the cost of mailing and decided-upon wholesale book prices.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library Butte County is supported by local donors and facilitated by BCOE Early Education Programs and Services in partnership with the Butte County Office of Education Charitable Trust 501(c)(3). In California, the Imagination Library is also supported by a 50% State Match, administered through the California State Library.

For only $15.50 you can provide an Imagination Library book to a child each month for one year!
The Dollywood Foundation covers program overhead including coordinating the book selection and fulfillment processes. Local Program Partners facilitate the cost of providing the books so there is no cost to children and families. In California, the Imagniation Library is also supported by a 50% State Match, administered through the California State Library.
BCOE Charitable Trust 501(c)(3) provides the mechinism for receiving donations in support of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library - Butte County. Donations are tax deductible.
Two ways to donate:
- Print and complete the donation form and mail a check to BCOE Charitable Trust 1859 Bird Street, Oroville, CA 95965. Include in the memo line "DPIL." This is the preferred method where 100% of funds remain local.
- Visit imaginationlibrary.com/donate check the box "I would like to designate this donation to a specific Imagination Library affiliate" and select CA Butte from the list of options.
